What is Infrared?

The word 'Infrared' comes from the Latin word 'infra' (meaning below) and the word 'red' (referencing the lowest visible color in the visual spectrum). Infrared  is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is just below the visual spectrum consisting of photons of light energy detected in the form of heat.

What is this "Electromagnetic Radiation Spectrum?

The electromagnetic radiation spectrum is the complete range of the wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation know by modern science This spectrum begins with ultra low frequencies just below our hearing capability, extending though our visual capability and extending beyond Gamma Rays

What is Thermography?

Thermography (in our application) is the practice if detecting thermal anomalies with specialized equipment. This information is analyzed and deciphered to determine potential anomalies that may be of concern. This information is then complied into detailed reports for review and ultimately action to correct problems that may otherwise go undetected until inevitable failure (often catastrophic). Professional Thermography includes the gathering of the actual Radiometric data as well.

What is Radiometric?

Radiometric (in our application) is the resulting temperature conversion of the measured infrared radiation. With the use of Professional Thermal Imagers, we can provide temperature measurements of less than .2°F

Is Infrared Radiation Dangerous?

Every physical object known to man emits Infrared Radiation when it's temperature is above absolute zero ( -459º Fahrenheit, or -273º Celsius ). This means that every object around you is emitting Infrared radiation ad all times. The amount of Infrared Radiation emitted by any given object is determined by too many variables to mention, however, our normal sensories enable us to actually feel accelerated levels of this radiation in the form of heat. Therefore, to answer this question, too much can be dangerous.

Why Link Support Services?

Link Support Services [LSS] employs only Certified Infrared Thermographers, and utilized the most up to date, state of the art thermal imaging equipment. We provide out customers with a service of service above their expectations. That is how we are Surpassing your Visions.

Is this service expensive?

Maintenance and Technology magazine published an article in June of 2001 reporting that the return on investment of Infrared Thermal Inspections is four to one...or 4/1. That includes detection and implementation of preventive repairs. Anual Inspections not only save money, they increase uptime and reliability of your critical operations!

What exactly will LSS do for me?

Upon our scheduled arrival at your site, we perform a pre-inspection walk through with your designated agent. We then review the planned itinerary with the your official(s) and discuss any potential obstacles that may have a negatively influential outcome in any given area. Upon our pre-inspection meeting, we begin our inspection with your designated agent, or if necessary, we will provide one for you. Upon completion of our Inspection, we will have a brief meeting with your official(s) summarizing our findings. We then return to our offices and further deciphering and analysis of our findings. This data is then complied into a handsome detail hard copy report. We also create a Compact Disk (DC) containing your report as well as all the radiometric images, and include a free program enabling you to implement a rudimentary analysis of your own.. If requested as part of the package, we also provide Internet access to your reports as long as you remain our customer.

Can't we do this ourselves?

Yes you can. If you are willing to invest in an Infrared program and dedicate time and money towards such an undertaking. Many companies have tried and failed to realize the benefits of this program by utilizing their own in-house Infrared Thermography Inspection program.  After the initial sticker shock of today's introductory imagers, combined with the training costs, and other hidden expenses, and lack of experience, they soon realize the benefit of outsourcing. Starting an effective program will cost well into the 10's of thousands of dollars in the first year alone. LSS  incurs the expense annually and is able to provide you with the  dedicated service your company needs to stay on top of your game!

Do the electrical panels have to be removed?

YES! Of course this is only if you want an effective and accurate inspection.

Several Infrared Inspection Service companies offer lower cost inspections by claiming they can see through panels. This is completely false! In many states, only licensed electricians may remove an electrical panel (which leads to additional cost) so to appear cost competitive, they will claim the panels do not need to be removed. Note: Most states permit facility maintenance personal to do this.

The truth is ...Infrared Thermography can only detect 'surface' anomalies, therefore panel removal is imperative to an effective and accurate assessment of your electrical integrity!

By misleading you, they are providing  you with an incomplete and highly subjective analysis (unacceptable by insurance companies as well as the Infrared Thermography community of Professional Thermographers with their claims of X-Ray vision. Not to mention the number of anomalies missed behind the panels.

Experience does not give X-ray vision, nor does Infrared Thermography.

Is this service expensive?

As with most services, the cost is relative to the content of the services provided. LSS is highly competitive in our pricing structure, providing our customers the very best value for their dollar.
